Many of our clients come to us for advice about determining the breast form size that’s right for them. In this article, we explain the three primary considerations to be made in deciding what size to select for your breast forms.
1.Is the Form for a Male or Female Body ?
Some males may be considered in the female body category if they have a very small chest width. This generally occurs around the 34 and 36 sizing for men.
The reason that the body type is important to consider is because what would look like a 38C on a male would be in reality much larger than what would look like a 38C on a female body. Since the male has a wider chest, the 38C of a female, if it were transplanted onto his chest, would not be wide or long enough to match the female proportions.
We have learned to use the following system when determining the first part of our formula: in a female body, the inches around the chest rounded down to the nearest even number would be equal to a B cup. In a male, however, that number would equal an A cup.
2.What is the Number of Inches Around the Chest at the Bra Band Point ?
Your eventual bra band size is determined by taking a measuring tape around the chest at the point where the bra band would set. Most bras have some stretch, so we generally round down to the nearest even number.
3.What is The Cup Size ?
We use the following descriptions to help our customers decide what cup size to go for:
B = Average cup size breasts
C = Full cup sized breasts
D = Large cup sized breasts
DD = VERY large cup sized breasts
Example
Let’s get the breast form size for a hypothetical wearer (from our experience).
You are male and, measuring around your chest at the bra band point, you get a measurement of 39 inches. Rounding down to the nearest even number, we will consider your first number a 38.
For cup sizes, use the following formula:
- For B-cup breast forms, add 2 to the bra number. (38 + 2 = 40/38B)
- To obtain a C cup, add 4 more to the B size. Those who want to be a little conservative may opt for +2 for a larger B or smaller C compromise. (38 + 6 = 44/38C)
- To obtain D cup breast forms, add 2 more to the C cup (38 + 8 = 46/38D)
- To obtain a DD cup, add 4 more to the D cup size. (38 + 12 = 50/38DD)
38B = 40 38B+ = 42 38C = 44 38D = 46 38DD = 50 40B = 42 42B+ = 44 42C = 46 42D = 48 40DD = 52 42B+ = 44 42B+ = 46 42C = 48 42D = 50 42DD = 54 44B = 46 44B+ = 48 44C = 50 44D = 52 44DD = 56
