One of the most common questions visitors to our brick and mortar location ask is: ‘do padded panties really work?’ It is easy to show them the difference when they visit in person as we simply have to fit them for a pair so they can see the before and after that answers the question with an emphatic ‘yes’. But what are the reasons for a padded panty making such a marked difference for crossdressers? Very few male bodies are blessed with hips in a correct female proportion and so to try to achieve a more female hourglass shape CD’s and transgender girls need to increase the hip and butt volume with padding, hormones, surgery or a combination. For most crossdressers, padded panties are the answer since they instantly boost hip and booty which is an attractive female trait.
Advantages of Padded Underwear
Correctly fitted padded panties have the following advantages:
- Add more hip and butt instantly
- Low cost compared to more permanent methods
- Curves are very attractive in a female
- Female clothes will fit correctly and look better
The addition of padding is relatively cheap, quick and gives very effective results. Immediately, your skirts and dresses will fit how they are supposed to. A key element of dress design is accentuating the natural curves of a female and without the necessary bulk in the hip and booty area clothes do not fit right and do not look as attractive as they can.
Different Types of Padded Panties for Men
As well as loose pads that can be used with pantyhose or even adhesives for the desired effect there are 3 main types of padded panties:
- Silicone Prosthetic Padded Panties which are high end padding solutions that can cost close to $1000 for best quality but are extremely hot to wear and are delicate so easily damaged. Cheaper models tend to want to fall down as the panty tends to have a thin cheap waistband.
- One-piece Molded Foam Padded Panties are padded panties with one continuous piece of molded foam on the inside of the layers of the panties.
- Padded Panties with Removable Pads are probably the most popular since they allow for thorough and easy cleaning of the garment whilst removing and safeguarding the pads.
There are many different padded panty brands on the market and crossdressers should beware of going for the cheapest and flimsiest options. Many such inferior products are pictured with a genetic female pushing her butt out to exaggerate the effect. You also need to remember even a slim genetic female will have a much bigger hip and butt in relation to their waist so you should not be fooled in thinking it will do the same for a male figure and look the same on you as it does in the photograph.
Look in the mirror and decide if you need just butt enhancement or hip and butt enhancement. This will help you in your choice of padded panty.
Padded Panties with Removable Pads
These have pockets so you can remove the padding to machine wash the panty which is a great feature. They also come in versions that have BOTH hip and butt enhancement or just butt enhancement. Most crossdresser padding needs to be for both hip and booty. Cheaper versions give a lumpy appearance so make sure you get a quality garment that has a strong girdle-like panty and quality tapered padding for a realistic curve.
One-Piece Padded Panties with Built-In Padding
If you just need a bit more of a bubble but then this is an ideal and affordable solution. However most crossdressers need hips as well and this type of padded panty rarely has hip enhancement. A major negative can be the fact you have to hand-wash such a garment. The padding is built-in so can’t be removed and machine washing will adversely affect the product.
Silicone Prosthetic Padded Panties
There are 2 versions available on the market today. One is an all-silicone girdle made by high-end prosthetic-makers which when sizing is correct gives almost perfect proportions though they can tear easily and at up to and over $1000 are out of reach of most folk. Then there are the lycra/spandex shorts/panty with internal pockets to insert silicone pads. Most of the cheaper one’s do not stay up due to the weight of the pads and the cheap thin elastic waistband on the panty, so beware!
As with many crossdressing solutions we rarely see that one garment is perfect for everyone simply because we are all different shapes and sizes and so require different solutions to achieve an ideal female shape for our own height and weight. However, as we see in our retail store, some garments work for most. When customers ask us: “do padded panties really work?”, we immediately measure and fit them for our most popular and realistic padded panty under $50, the Padded Rear and Hip Shaping Girdle, and the answer 99.9 times out of 100 is a resounding ‘YES!’.
