For many of us in the CD/Trans community, there comes a time when we know this is who we are and we are all-in with identifying as our feminine selves whether it be part-time or full time. But once it is part of our fabric, we need to take certain steps in identifying ourselves as such. One of the biggest decisions that need to be made is choosing our feminine name. When it comes to choosing a new name, there are many ways to go, but that moment you come upon that perfect name, you will know. For those of you that are looking for some advice on picking a name that you know is the one for you, here are some tips.
Trending Female Names of 2019
Since choosing your new name is like a re-birth so to speak, you should look at the trending birth names for 2019. It’s a fashionable way to choose your name and can also be a nice way to look back and remember the year you made the choice to be the new you. Some of the most popular female names of 2019 are Olivia, Emma, and Ava. If you want to go for a more unique name, some popular choices this year are Penelope, Aurora, and Luna. A quick google search of popular girl names for 2019 is all you need to do to see a huge list of name ideas.
Play Around With Feminine Versions of Your Male Name
Not everyone can make this work as there aren’t always female versions of every male name, but you can get creative if there’s not. Michael/Michelle, Joseph/Josephine, Eric/Erica, Andrew/Andrea are just a few. Nowadays, many names have both female and male counterparts so this choice can be an easy one if you are really lost.
Do You Have Any Idols Which You’d Like to Name Yourself After?
We’ve all had someone we’ve looked up to. Perhaps you’re a long time fan of someone in particular or maybe there is someone in your life that has inspired you or someone you strive to be like. Adopting their name is a very popular way to go. Perhaps you’re a classic girl who loves Marilyn Monroe or Jackie O. Those are great femme names. For modern girls, there is a who’s who of famous women to name yourself after. Kardashian is not a good first name though (wink wink). You could even combine two famous names for a totally different angle on this and it can work really well. Jackie Monroe anyone?
Go For Something Completely Out of the Box
Since choosing a transgender name is part of your reinvention or rebirth, why not totally reinvent yourself by choosing a name that is unique to you. Have you ever thought of being on a stage with people watching you perform? Try out a glamourous entertainer’s name and embrace your new persona. Is your new look embracing flash and style? Try a name that will match your new look. Maybe you’re going for a vibrant wig style, so go with a vibrant name to match.
Speak to Friends and Family to See What They Think
If you have come out to your friends and family and are comfortable speaking to them about this, why not ask their opinion? These are the people that know you best and may be able to offer some ideas based on your personality. It’s also a nice way to bounce ideas around some different options and see what those closest to you think.
Choosing your female name is one of your biggest decisions when it comes to your transition. It will be how people will come to know you, so you want to make the right choice so you feel good about. We’ve spoken to some girls who have changed their female names a few times until they found the name that was right for them. And like so many girls have said to us in the pst and what is probably the best advice we could give is that when you come upon the right name, you will feel it in your gut and know it in your heart because this is who you truly are.
How did you decide on your female name? Did you know it right away? Did it take some time? Where did you get your inspiration from? Let us know by emailing us at [email protected] or by messaging us on our Facebook Page.
