The struggle of hiding your Adam’s Apple is real. For many when En Femme, one of the biggest concerns is concealing it, as it can be a dead giveaway. The good news is that there are many ways for you to hide or conceal your genetic male Adam’s Apple.
Now, there is a myth that only men have Adam’s Apples, but that is not true. Both men and women have one. Let’s get scientific for a moment to better understand the Adam’s Apple. The Adam’s Apple is hard cartilage that grows around the larynx. It is there to protect our vocal cords in both sexes. For males, it grows during puberty as our voices deepen and our voice boxes become larger due to that deeper voice. The amount of testosterone you produce will also affect the size and growth level of your Adam’s Apple. Even past puberty and into adulthood these levels of testosterone will affect your Adam’s Apple protrusion. So since women do not produce testosterone their Adams Apple won’t protrude as they don’t have enough Androgens.
Now, of course, you can have a surgery called a tracheal shave, but that comes with its own issues which include possible damage to your larynx or your voice as a whole. So let’s get to some solutions that will work that don’t require any health risks. Here is a short list to start of ways you can conceal your Adam’s Apple:
- Scarves
- High Collared Shirts
- Make up – Contouring
- Long Hairstyle
- Necklaces/Chokers
How to hide your Adam’s Apple with a scarf
Scarves are a no brainer solution here as they can cover your entire neck.
Now depending on where you live and the climate, scarves may not be your best choice but they are a terrific solution nonetheless. A bonus to using a scarf is that it is a great accessory to your outfit when out. You can go from heavy winter weather style scarves to a light and colorful silk scarf that can be a beautiful addition to your look. Again, this solution is not really the best in hot weather, as wearing a heavy scarf in 90 degrees will be uncomfortable as well as a giveaway when trying to pass. This is where a silk scarf can afford you some leeway since it is cooler than a heavy wool scarf. Depending on your outfit, you can also use a bandana or bandeau (photo above) which take up less real estate around your neck but give you the same effect.
How to hide your Adam’s Apple with a high collared shirt or turtleneck
Now a turtleneck in the middle of summer can also be a dead giveaway since that is not a common site, but in winter months or in cold climates, this is a no brainer. High collared shirts are a great way to conceal your Adam’s Apple regardless of temperature or climate as you can purchase a light fabric that will be fine in hotter months/climates. Another great way to go is a high collared cold shoulder dress like the one in the photo above. This will not only hide your Adam’s Apple, but it will look amazing as it is a very popular dress style.
How to hide your Adam’s Apple with Makeup
Contouring is a great way to conceal your Adam’s Apple regardless of climate. When applying contouring makeup to the protruding area, a good rule of thumb is to go two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Dark colors give the illusion of making an area look smaller (think of a darkly painted room as opposed to a bright a lightly colored room). This will make your Adam’s Apple area appear visually smaller.
How to hide your Adam’s Apple with long hair
Like contouring or a high collared shirt, you want to blend your Adam’s Apple. A great way to accomplish this is with long hairstyles. A longer hairstyle, especially one with a curly look can go a long way in concealing your Adam’s Apple. From the side, the curls will mask the bulge and help it blend in a bit. A shorter haircut or Bob style cut shapes your face while leaving your neck exposed. Since these shorter cuts end right at your jawbone, it draws more attention to your neck area, leaving your Adam’s Apple on display.
Bonus Tip – Swallow When Taking A Photo
When taking those sexy selfies or any photo En Femme for that matter, swallow as the picture is being taken. Swallowing will make your Adam’s Apple less visible, so try practicing this tip and give it a shot when you feel comfortable.
Using these tips or a combination of them will put you in a better frame of mind. For example, you like short hairstyles but need to hide your Adam’s Apple. Use the contouring method, a scarf or high collared blouse. The one thing we couldn’t suggest enough is to skip surgery. Not only is it expensive, but the side effects (voice issues/scarring/etc.) pose their own set of problems. As always. It’s also about confidence. Be confident in yourself and how you look En Femme and you will be just fine.
