For those of us living in the US, most of us are blessed with wonderfully warm summers. While we all love summer, if you’re choosing to cross-dressing, it can be a pain. The warmer weather leaves us in a situation where we would be wearing less clothing, meaning the long sleeves, turtlenecks, heavy pantyhose and all the other great tools we have at our disposal go by the wayside. Instead, we are left with shorter skirts, tiny shorts, and short sleeved tops. The biggest problem this presents to most girls is how to hide their leg and arm hair. But instead of denying your femme self some fun this summer, let’s look at some ways you can still get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather this season brings.
Clothing for Hot Weather That You’ll Want to Wear This Summer
The key to picking the right clothes and outfits for the summer months is to think cool. Depending on your ability to shave your leg or arm hair (we’ll get to that later), tanks tops and shorter skirts are always a great go-to and make for a great casual summer look. Open toe shoes or sandals are perfect to keep your feet cool and if you have one, show off that cute pedicure. A maxi dress is a great choice for fuller coverage as the dress will fall to your ankles. The maxi dress is a light, loose-fitting dress, that allows your skin to breathe and is also a winner for easy-wearing summer vacation clothing. Depending on the style of maxi dress, you can get some added help with shaping as well. Other clothing for hot weather options are light colored, light fabric pants (think white, pink, yellow) with a long sleeve, breathable light blouse. Along with some sandals, you will be all set for an afternoon out with the girls. Little add-ons like a light jacket can help hide arm hair as well especially if you are out at night when the temperature tends to cool off. With all these great options, you can easily find the perfect summer outfit.
What To Do About Leg Hair
One of the biggest hurdles is what to do about your legs as leg hair removal for men isn’t always an option. In the colder months, this is never an issue as we have our legs covered up in some way. Now the most obvious option, if you can do it and not have to worry about anything, is to just shave your legs as there is nothing like freshly shaved soft legs shining in the sun. But, what do you do if shaving leg hair is not in the cards? One option is to wear opaque stay ups. The opaque style offers total concealment of your leg hair and since they are not pantyhose and stop at your upper thigh, you have breathability. So, if you were wondering how to wear a summer dress without having to shave your legs, that’s the answer! Other options are waxing, laser hair removal or creams that will remove everything, but again that is if you can keep your legs clear of any hair and not worry about questions from those around you when in guy mode.
What To Do About Arm Hair
While in most cases arm hair is not as bad as leg hair, it can still be an issue when presenting yourself en femme and donning your clothing for hot weather. Like your legs, shaving arm hair is always an option, but may not be what works for you. If you can shave your arm hair, we recommend using a little extra suntan lotion when outside since your arms aren’t used to having that extra exposure to the sun without your arm hair being a barrier. Most women have some arm hair, so a good way to avoid shaving would be to just trim the arm hair as this will just give the appearance of you grooming yourself. You can also bleach your arm hair or use a combination of the two. Like we mentioned earlier, a light long sleeve blouse is always a good option if shaving is not, as it adds coverage and will keep you cool.
Staying Fresh In Summer Weather
Another obstacle we encounter in the summer months is staying fresh. From worrying about our makeup running to sweating, the heat can be an enemy of sorts. One key item that all of you should use is a no sweat antiperspirant skin prep. This is a great barrier since you apply this to your skin prior to your beard cover and makeup application. A bonus of the skin prep is that it can also be used on your chest to help minimize perspiration when you are wearing your breast forms, especially if you are attaching them with adhesive. The skin prep can last for quite a while affording you the ability to stay out longer without fear of runny makeup or moving breast forms. A foot deodorizer is a good tool to have at your disposal as well. With opened toed shoes or flats, your bare feet could perspire and cause an odor which we definitely don’t want. Lastly, perfume is always a great barrier to avoid any odors. Try switching up your usual scent for a summer one. Which brings us to our final tip.
Simple Summer Change-Ups
Along with changing your perfume to a summer scent, there are some other fun options that can help change up your look for summer. Try a wig with some light highlights or if you’ve grown out your own hair, add some. That will give you a fresh appearance. Accompany that with a lighter lipstick color which compliments the new hair as well. Lastly, make sure to add some summer colors to your outfits. Great summer patterns include flowers, tie-dye, fringe or animal prints. It’s always good to accessorize your colors for the summer months and leave those winter colors behind until fall.
We know summer can be harder on crossdressers and trans girls as many of the tools we use aren’t a reasonable option in the warm months like they are in the cooler months.
