As someone who wears eyeglasses myself, it is sometimes a battle to find something that looks good and is practical for my terrible vision. It gets even harder when you have to look for that extra pair for the days when you are getting dressed in your cutest outfit for some time out with the girls.
Because male and female frames fit on male and female faces differently, finding that femme pair can take a little time. Let’s see if we can get this all sorted out and have you looking (and seeing) fine in your new feminine glasses.
How to choose feminine glasses for men?
In this day and age, there are many glasses that are of the unisex variety. This is a huge help as it affords us the ability to just have one pair of glasses. But how many girls really only have one of anything?
The first thing to consider is the shape of your face and the type of frame that would work best. Since men have a larger face, it helps to find frames that can help offset that. Larger frames are in fashion which is a plus because that will help give your face a little bit of a smaller look. Smaller frames will have the opposite effect and can actually make your face look larger.
Guidelines for choosing feminine frames
- Find frames that are shaped differently than your face. So for example, if you have a round face, try and find a pair of angular shaped glasses. If you have more defined, angular features, you may want to go with a curvier or rounder frame.
- Try and keep everything in proportion. So if you do happen to have a smaller face, than go for a smaller lens. Our main goal is to blend in and not draw too much attention, so a frame that is way too large or small on your face will most definitely draw some attention.
Try and apply these two rules when shopping for your female glasses as they should help you find a frame that fits your face correctly. We each know our individual faces best so with a little work, you can find a great pair that fits your facial proportions and have you looking great.
Frames that are currently in style…
I may repeat this, but a classic Black plastic frame is a great go-to for glasses. That’s what I am wearing right now. The various shapes and sizes of the Black Plastic frame can work well on just about any face and in most cases these frames, depending on the shape are unisex and if needed can be worn as either your male or female self.
If you choose a plastic frame that is not black, pick a color frame that would compliment your hair color. I have found that tortoise shell is a nice neutral color that can work well with darker hair colors.
I love vintage, so it made me happy when I found out that one of the most popular styles right now are Cat-eye Frames. Popular in the ’50s & ’60s, what’s old is new again and these frames are just plain terrific. If you are someone into the rockabilly/retro look, these are the frames for you. Even if you are an older CD, these can help fit your age and make you current with the style. Plus because this style is so hot right now, you can pretty much find them in just about any color or size you may need.
If you have more square features, a good recommendation is round or square glasses. These shapes will offset that chiseled jaw look. This is where you can also shy away from the plastic frames and expand out to metal frames as the square and circular style are a great look in metal.
Lastly, one of the most popular styles is the geek/hipster style. Here you can go with the traditional black plastic frame I mentioned earlier, but this style also gives you carte blanche with sizing, color and look. How hipster or geeky do you want to look? If drawing attention is not an issue for you when out and dressed, I say go for it! In fact, in this case, the bigger the better. I have always been a fan of the geek style of glasses and in fact, this is what my current frames are.
With so many choices out there, enjoy the time spent shopping for the right frames. I know from experience, that once you find the right frame it helps to define you and your style. Enjoy the hunt ladies.
