They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. For a celebrity, that may hold true more than anyone. All over the world, we are always waiting to see the latest outfit or style choice from our favorite celebs and how we can copy it. For those of us that dress, we can really turn things up a notch by actually dressing as one of our favorite celebs. Others may just love the fashion style of a certain celebrity and follow suit. Let’s take a look at some of the most copied stars both past and present.
Cher
Let’s start with the first of many icons, but one that has been an inspiration for many who dress. When Cher first came on to the scene as part of Sonny and Cher with her then-husband Sonny Bono, no one knew she would become a larger than life superstar whose every fashion move would be dissected to the smallest detail. Who could forget her infamous Oscar outfit or her forever memorable “butt” outfit in the Turn Back Time music video? I think Cher will be someone that girls who like to do drag shows will emulate forever.
Marilyn Monroe
I like to call Marilyn Monroe the OG of Fashion Icons. Think about this; it’s been 55+ years since her death and she is still one of the most loved and copied sex symbols. Personally, Marilyn is my go-to girl. Her beauty has transcended time and I still have a picture of her hanging on my wall. Her presence on screen was hypnotic and even though she left this world too soon, Monroe’s image will always live on. In fact, if you go to Las Vegas tonight, there is someone, in a casino dressed as Marilyn either on stage or walking around.
Brigitte Bardot
While we are on the topic of blonde bombshells, let’s not forget Brigitte Bardot. One of the original “pin-up” models, Bardot oozed sex appeal. Her outfits were always setting fashion trends for girls everywhere. Bardot was such a fashion icon, that the term Bardot Neckline was inspired by her. The look is a wide neckline that totally exposes the shoulders. At the time that was risque, but now all of us girls like to show off at least a little shoulder.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Thanks to Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker will always be a fashion icon. Probably best known for her choice of pricey shoes, SJP is just as trendy and on top of fashion trends as her on-screen persona Carrie Bradshaw, even starting trends of her own. Plus, who wouldn’t kill for that gorgeous thick wavy hair?
Chloe Sevigny
This is a dark horse on the list, but any girl who grew up in the 90’s/2000’s knew the beautiful Chloe Sevigny. Chloe’s style is all her own. She doesn’t care what she wears and how it will be received. She has gone from elegant to quirky to “what the hell?” and back again. She was the poster child as the “IT Girl” and for over a decade fashion critics would always go back to Sevigny as such. Check out some of her fashions. I bet at least one will fit your style.
Kim Kardashian
Let’s take a moment to try and figure out the Kardashian phenomena. The entire family is famous merely for being famous. Think about it. That all starts and ends with Kim. I feel that Kim may be solely responsible for the big booty craze as well, all while setting fashion trends worldwide. There seems to be no stopping the Kardashian train as every corner of the globe knows of her and her “assets.” I cannot tell you how many times Glamour Boutique receives a phone call asking us for help getting a Kim K booty. At the end of the day, Kim is gorgeous and I completely understand why a lot of CD’s want to replicate her look and those curves.
Beyonce
One of the most beloved celebrities on the planet is Queen Bey. To get her look down, you will need a lot of hair as Beyonce has one impressive mane. What’s nice about Beyonce’s look, is that it can go from sexy music superstar to sophisticated and elegant. So which Beyonce is right for you?
The Royals – From Princess Diana to Kate Middleton
Known as the People’s Princess, Princess Diana was one of the most beloved figures on the planet. People from all over the world looked to her and her choice of fashion for the 2 decades she was in the spotlight. Sadly we lost our Princess, but when Di’s son William married Kate Middleton, the world got another royal they could fall in love with and emulate her fashion choices. From red carpet events to walking around with her children, Kate has definitely taken over the role left by her mother in law in our hearts.
Lady Gaga
Of all the musical artists on this list, Lady Gaga is my personal favorite, but that doesn’t mean I am going to go put on a meat dress and freak everyone out. Gaga’s sense of style is one of a kind and she has totally upped the game of her predecessors, Cher and Madonna. Gaga allows us girls to go a little deeper with our makeup and overall look because to emulate Gaga is to take your fashion to another level. Gaga’s look is 100% meant for the Drag girls out there and one great fact to point out – when she gets home after a tour performing for her little monsters all over the world, she is just your average Italian girl from New York. Performance art at its best!
Britney Spears
When people look back at iconic 90’s music video moments, I challenge you to find one as remembered as the first time you saw Britney in the Baby.. One More Time video. Aside from a song that was super catchy, everyone remembers that school girl outfit. While controversial due to her being 17, Spears brought back a look that was always a hit behind closed doors when adults would dress up as a schoolgirl in the bedroom. The look still hasn’t gone away as CD’s everywhere still love this look. Since then, through all of her ups and downs, Britney has remained a big star 20 years on. But when people today dress like Britney, it will always go back to that young Britney that will forever be burned into our memories.
Madonna
How could Madonna not be on this list. Madonna is an Icon in every sense of the word. From the moment she busted onto the scene in 1983 till today, Madonna is one of the most famous people on the planet. She has invented styles and has been copied since day one. From girls in Drag to CD’s who just plain love her, Madonna’s looks will be copied for generations to come just like the Icon she emulated in her early years, Marilyn Monroe.
Wonder Woman
If dressing like a real-life celebrity or fashion Icon is not for you, take things to a totally different level. Who wouldn’t want to be Wonder Woman? Invisible Jet, Super Powers, a lasso of truth and that iconic outfit. For a lot of us out there, the Wonder Woman look just oozes sexy and with her more popular now than ever, this is the time to get dressed, look like a sexy superhero and maybe save the world in the process. Or just get dressed and look super sexy as Wonder Woman.
We always love to hear from our readers. Are you a Madonna or a Kim K girl? Maybe Wonder Woman isn’t your superhero of choice. Supergirl? Batgirl? Who are some of your go-to celebrities to emulate when dressing? Drop us an email or check out our Facebook page and let us know.
