The Pride Center of New Jersey’s TrueSelves Support Group
Following is information from Nicole Brownstein a long-time friend of Glamour Boutique and facilitator for the Pride Center of New Jersey’s TrueSelves Support Group. Please read carefully as the group is quite specific with regards who it serves. If in doubt, email us and we can advise accordingly.
We are a group of transgendered individuals, aged 17 to 70, who meet twice a month to provide help and support to one another. We provide a safe place to meet where you can just be yourself without fear.
Our meetings are open to anyone who identifies as bring transgender, although the majority of our membership consists of transsexuals, both MtF and FtM, gender fluid and several who are still figuring themselves out. We are a support group and not your typical social group, meaning we are not the typical gathering you might find at a bar. Individuals who associate with fetish, exhibitionists or costuming will not fit in.
Our meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30PM and again on the third Sunday of each month beginning at 4PM. Our meetings are held at the Pride Center of New Jersey which is located at 85 Raritan Ave (Rt 27) in Highland Park, NJ. There is a driveway immediately in front of the building which leads to a large parking lot which is ours to use.
During select months, I will bring a guest speaker to our Sunday meetings to talk with us about a topic of interest to us. In recent months we have had a therapist; a speech pathologist and a representative from the TSA visit our meetings. In September and October we will have a board certified plastic surgeon, and a leading endocrinologist with us. We will also host a TDOR (Transgender Day of Remembrance) service during our regular November Sunday meeting.
I am the facilitator and group leader for TrueSelves and I am a post op woman. I live my life as any other woman would live hers and due to this, I have experience that can be valuable to our members.
I cordially invite you to come to one of our meetings and see if what we offer is what you are looking for. The Pride Center is a nonprofit organization and requests a donation of $3 per attended session. Please join us….
