When going out en femme, every piece of your look is super important. In many cases, it will come down to your makeup. It’s important to not only apply it correctly but to also use makeup that helps you accomplish your femme look. Whether you are a novice or a pro, let’s look at some of the best makeup kits for crossdressers.
What is the Best Makeup for Crossdressers?
It can be daunting using makeup for the first time or if you’re not sure how to apply it. For this article, we have identified the best makeup for crossdressers which is easy to apply, lasts well and helps you cover up any blemishes or dark circles you’d like to hide.
As a genetic male, your facial imperfections can be more challenging to cover than genetic females. Concealers and foundations are a big part of helping you with this. Let’s take a look…
Achieving Flawless Coverage with Your Foundation
Foundation is a liquid, cream or powder makeup that creates an even, uniform color to your complexion while also covering flaws and in some cases, changing your natural skin tone.
Before we get into foundation, you should consider using a good primer under your foundation as it will help keep everything on, especially on really hot days.
Prepping the skin is also important and moisturising and priming can go a long way to ensuring the skin has a good base to apply foundation to.
There are four types of foundation coverage:
Sheer Coverage is for someone who is looking to improve their skin tone but isn’t looking to hide or cover up imperfections.
Medium Coverage is for concealing some imperfections while still looking like skin.
Full Coverage will hide all blemishes and imperfections and make your skin look flawless. This type of foundation can be strong enough to even hide tattoos.
Buildable Coverage can be layered so you can build your desired level of coverage. This is a good foundation if you need help on certain parts of your face more than others.
At Glamour Boutique our makeup artists use a full coverage cream foundation that works especially well on male skin and lasts a long time.
Bobbi Brown has a great line of foundations that you can find on Amazon. Look up Bobbi Brown Weightless Foundation there and select the shade that works best for you. Some other foundations that you can find on Amazon are: Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, and MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. How To Apply Foundation
When applying foundation, it is important to find the right shade for your skin. You should also know what coverage level you need. For example, some girls feel that a full coverage foundation is too thick and heavy and may go for a sheer foundation instead. Consider your skin type as well. Are you naturally oily or dry skinned? Dewy foundations work best on normal or dry skin while matte foundations work better on oily skin. Lastly, consider your skin’s undertones. Are you warm skin or cool skinned. If you’re warm, try a yellow-tone colored foundation while a pink foundation works best with cool skin. Once you have all that figured out, dab the foundation onto your brush or sponge or directly on to your face. It’s better to start in the centre of your face and blend the product out; making sure it goes all the way to the edge of your face. Remember, your makeup brush is your friend as you will be using it to blend the foundation along your face.
Best Concealers for Crossdressers
Concealer is similar to foundation. It’s main difference is that it is generally thicker. It helps to hide dark circles, blemishes, age spots, etc. Concealers hide pigments and can blend these imperfections into your skin. Some girls will also use it as a primer for their eye shadow. Similar to the foundations, you can find a lot of products on Amazon. Another great place to check is Sephora. Some products we know makeup artists recommend: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (great for dark circles under your eyes), NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP HD Studio Photogenic Concealer Wand (a great option for those on a budget), Almay Clear Complexion Concealer (great for breakouts), and L’Oreal Paris Makeup Infallible Full Wear Waterproof Matte Concealer (one of the best waterproof concealers).
How to Apply Concealer
You should apply concealer on top of your foundation so it doesn’t smudge. The best places to apply your concealer, is just below your eyes, on your brow, and your nose bridge. Be sure to use the concealer on any blemishes you have on your skin as well. Using the pad of your finger or your makeup brush, tap in the concealer. It is best to tap and not rub. Just make sure to blend well. If you feel you need another layer, you can add more. After applying the concealer, apply some loose powder over your face to set it. Some makeup artists say that loose powder applied with a fluffy brush is the key.
