What is Waist Training and Does it Work?
Waist training’ is the practise of using a steel boned corsets (in addition to light exercise and sensible eating habits) to gradually change the shape of the waist to that of a more hourglass shape (narrower waist than hips and shoulders). Waist training for men is much more effective when using a specialist corset designed for the male torso rather than an off-the-peg corset made for a genetic girl shape. Over time when tight-lacing a steel boned corset the reduction is achieved by:
- Cinching the waist down repeatedly which encourages ‘muscle memory’
- Reducing the stomach which in turn reduces appetite and calorie intake
Anyone can waist train but the most dramatic results are seen on people with excess fat in the waist and belly region. Progress can be quite dramatic and we frequently see waist-reduction of between 2 to 3 inches in the first 2 to 4 months. Waist training with a steel boned corset is not a fad diet, it is more of a ‘lifestyle’ choice, though once a person has reached their own waist reduction goal/weight loss they may choose to stop wearing the corset and only bring it back out if diet and lifestyle lead to an increase in weight again.
For fast and lasting results you need to be disciplined when waist training. Initially you will need the following:
- A well-fitting and strong steel-boned corset from a reputable supplier like www.GlamourBoutique.com
- Time to wear the corset; better results are achieved with a few hours wearing a day rather than just 8 hours every Saturday for example
- Eating more frequent but smaller meals in a day (the corset encourages this)
- Moderate exercise e.g. walking
Your one stop guide to waist training with a corset
For many of us who dress, we often find ourselves wanting a more girlish figure. While there are products out there to help with our chest size as well as our hips and butt, our fight for that true hourglass figure is real. Through history, one of the tried and true ways to help has been the steel boned corset. With hundreds of years behind it, the corset has proven itself time and time again. The corset has been making a comeback the last few years with some well known celebrities trying this classic method for extra help in shaping their figure. For those of you looking for that perfect feminine shape or curious how waist training in a corset works, we would like to get you on your way with our guide to waist training for men.
Differences between male and female torso
One major difference between male and female torsos is that men do not have a defined waist. The male body is more rectangular in shape before it broadens out at the shoulders. The classic female torso is exactly what we have called it for generations – the hourglass figure. Another issue crossdressing men face is that weight gain is most common in the belly whereas a woman stores her weight in the hip and butt area. Don’t forget women have larger hips due to their bodies needing the support for childbirth. So with their hips being the widest part of their body, the waist is typically narrower by design.
Lastly, a male’s torso is longer than a female torso. There are always exceptions to the rule, but that is more or less the way our bodies differ.
Even after reading this, it may seem discouraging at first to try a waist training corset on a male body as you may feel you cannot achieve your desired effect, but cinching the waist on a male is completely possible and amazing results can be obtained when using a purpose-made crossdresser corset with steel bones.
Male Corsets vs Female Corsets
Corset design has remained pretty much the same for the last two centuries with simple improvements being made only in the materials. For example, flexible steel ‘bones’ are now used rather than whale boning of yesteryear.
A traditional off-the-shelf corset made for a genetic female is not the most effective garment to accelerate your waist training. Due to the wider hips of a genetic female the traditional corset will ‘flare’ in the hip area on a male so that whilst it will be tight at the top, the bottom in the lower belly area will likely be too loose
At Glamour Boutique we overcome this issue and maximize your cinching ability by using our own designs of traditional style corsets to correctly fit a male torso. We strongly recommend you obtain a crossdresser corset in the correct size to maximize your waist training and feminine shape. A corset made to fit an M to F transgender person/crossdresser will not flare in the hip area. Instead, once you have laced it up you will see the gap between the 2 sides of the corset will be equal; this will not be the case if you use a corset made for genetic girls.
How to waist train
Let’s start by acknowledging that waist training takes time. It’s not a sprint but a marathon, so be prepared to spend at least a few months working on shrinking your waist. When starting out, you should only look at waist cinchers or underbust corsets that are designed for crossdressers as they are geared toward waist training, whilst a full body corset is more for those who have already achieved their goal or are looking to wear it for more fashionable reasons.
The first time you wear a corset you will cinch the corset in for up to 2 to 3 inches reduction if you have the correct size corset. Over time, the waist training will lead to further reduction and eventual permanent reduction (that is the waist maintains it’s narrower shape even when the corset has been removed).
For fast results wear the corset 3 or more hours a day. If worn everyday over time then the waist starts to use muscle memory and in time when you remove the corset your waist will retain the laced-up corset shape on it’s own.
An underbust corset covers the torso and ribcage and sits just under the bust. Crucially, the underbust style of corset dips down at the front so cinches not only the waist but also helps train the lower belly. This design works well with most shapes and accommodates both function and fashion, giving you the ability to wear the corset both under and over your clothes.
Consider wearing a corset over a good quality padded panty for a total female hourglass shape like the Padded Rear and Hip Shaping Girdle
Let’s take a look at a couple of corsets that are great choices to start your waist training.
Most men carry their weight in the belly and it hangs low, so a good rule of thumb when choosing your first corset should be along the lines of The Underbust Corset for Waist Training as it has a longer front. This style will therefore train the waist and lower belly and will work on someone as short as 5 foot and all the way up to 6′. For taller persons and those with longer torsos then we also have specialist corsets for this.
Not all crossdressers need the additional length of the underbust corset. If the extra belly bulge isn’t an issue, start off with an Underbust Cincher as it will enhance your waist 4 to 6 inches. A cincher is a shorter corset so does not cover the lower belly. Typically a cincher is 1″ to 2.5″ shorter than the underbust corset.

Once you have chosen a corset, it is crucial to break in the steel bones by wearing the corset over the first one to two weeks for at least 3 hours a day. Make sure the corset is not too tight yet as we are just getting started. This allows the corset bones to soften, flex and form themselves to your body-shape for optimum cinching.
Once broken in you can tighten the corset each time to a point to increase reduction whilst still being comfortable. It is important to wear the corset every day for a few hours each day if you are looking for quicker results as your waists muscle memory will start to form and you will still have the shapely look even
Tips when waist training
Buy high quality garments. Quality, fit, and curvature are three very important things to look for in a corset. Corsets that do not have a defined waistband will make anyone look tubular. It will not help you get that perfect hourglass figure that every woman is dying to have.
Take it one day at a time. Gradual integration of corsets into your everyday life will be most beneficial. You need to first get used to wearing corsets- jumping right in with wearing tightlace corsets all the time will be very uncomfortable. Starting by wearing a corset a couple hours a day, not tied as tight as possible, will help your body get used to this lifestyle. It will also help you break-in your corset- if you haven’t done so already. Waist training using this approach will help you establish a long-term habit instead of a temporary obsession.
Have patience. Everyone’s comfort levels are different, and everyone body types are different as well. Reshaping the body with waist training is a time consuming thing. Your body isn’t just going to reshape overnight! Reshaping is highly dependent on a couple factors in any individual. Some things include: the core density, distance from the pelvic bone to the rib cage, flexibility of the cartilage, quality/shape of the garment, and consistency of wear. It is normal to train for at least six months before noticing any huge differences with your body. One needs to be patient and realize that this process needs serious time.
Listen to your body!
- Don’t use your waist trainer if you experience shortness of breath.
- Don’t use your waist trainer if you experience numbness in your legs.
- Don’t use your waist trainer if you experience sharp stomach pains.
- Don’t use your waist trainer if you experience any pinching or swelling around your midsection.
What are the possible waist reduction results?
You will be amazed how proper waist training with a corset can give you the results you are looking for. Just by wearing the corset you will have a few inches shaved off your figure. But if you have the ability to wear the corset every day and properly train your waist, you will be amazed at how your body will naturally reshape itself leaving you with a more permanent hourglass figure even when not wearing the corset.
