Hosiery Shopping Guide

  • Stockings
  • Tights
  • Stay-ups
  • Pantyhose

Crossdressers get so intimidated by the Hosiery Aisle. It is really rather easy to figure out. You just have to familiarize yourself with some terms that will help you through it all. So, lets begin on the basics:

Denier: This term is how the Hosiery world measures the thickness of their desired garments. The lower the denier the more sheer and fragile the hosiery will be. The higher the denier the more durable and thick the item will be. A low density item will usually be referred to as sheer while a high denier will be referred to as opaque.

There are four different categories: Stockings, stay-ups, tights, and pantyhose. Let’s get a better understanding of all these terms.

Hosiery

Tights: these cover from your toes up to your waist. These are typically the thickest hosiery you can get. Very durable and doesn’t rip very easily. Great for tall crossdressers and girls that cannot shave their legs. The thick material is hard to rip so pulling up the hosiery will be easier with tights for taller woman. Also, tights will hide leg hair while keeping them looking nice and smooth. Also, great for the winter seasons.

Pantyhose: just like tights; pantyhose cover your feet up to your waist as well. However, pantyhose are very sheer and prone to runs and rips in the material. Usually panthose has a stronger material around the waist to help keep them up and prevent rips. Great for people that have tiny imperfections, like bruises on their legs that they want to hide while still show off their natural legs. Also, great for summer formal gatherings and warmer months.

Stockings: this item covers your feet and upper thighs. They are typically worn with garter belts to keep them from falling down your leg. Great for tall people and very sexy. However, some people find garter belts uncomfortable to wear making stockings unrealistic for them. It’s all up to preference though.

Stay-ups: these items look just like stockings however, they do not require garter belts. Stay-ups have very strong support bands at the top of the stocking that should prevent them from falling down your leg. However, you could pair them with a garter belt if you prefer.

I told you, you will be a hosiery master in no time! All you have to remember is the four categories and what Denier you prefer (sheer or opaque). After that, deciding if you want full coverage with pantyhose/tights or half coverage with stay-ups/stockings! Have fun ladies!
