5 Essential Items You Should Always Keep In Your Purse

items in purse

We’ve heard this story more times than we can count, “I was out with the girls and I really needed my ______, so I reached into my purse and it wasn’t there. I forgot it at home.” That fill in the blank can be an endless list of items. For our fellow CDs and T-Girls out there, Glamour Boutique would like to offer a checklist of 5 essentials to always make sure are in your purse so that way you never have to have another “I really needed my ______ ” again.

Before we get into the main list, let’s take a minute to always remember some unisex items that need to find their way into your purse as well.

Some Form of ID – Whether you have an ID for your femme self or you just have your male ID, it is important to have something in case of any issues while out. Trust me, getting into a situation without any ID can be a lot worse than just showing your male ID.

Cell Phone – In this day and age, we are lost without our phones. So make sure not to leave it at home. I’ve made that mistake before and the anxiety you get without your phone is REAL!

Cash – Sometimes you wind up in a situation where you need actual cash and a credit or debit card won’t do. As common as ATMs are in this day and age, you can always find yourself somewhere where you cannot get some cash. A few 20s can go a long way if you’re in a pinch. So make sure to have some cash in hand before leaving for the night.

Gum or mints – Between food, drinks and everything else, as the night goes on, you may need a refresh on your breath. It never hurts to have a pack of gum or mints in your purse as being “that one” with the bad breath isn’t the person you want to be.

So once you have those few basics, what are some must haves for a girls night out.

Small Compact/Makeup Kit – There’s almost always a need to freshen up your makeup if you are out for a full day or out for a night with the girls. Your best bet is to find a small all-in-one kit with a small mirror built in. If you are a minimalist and don’t feel the need to refresh your makeup, at least carry a compact so you can give your makeup a once over here and there.

Setting Powder – We know how hot it can get at a club. Whether you are at a table or on the dance floor, the heat in the room almost always rises as the night goes on. One of the most important items to keep in your purse would be a Setting Powder. The setting powder is an essential part of getting your makeup on to start the night as it helps to blend everything and gives your makeup more of a no-makeup look. Way better than any setting cream, the powder doesn’t leave any residue or caked on feel to it. For a touch-up, just remember to have a small makeup brush (from your kit above) or a powder puff.

Lipstick – If you’re at dinner or out for drinks, your lipstick will fade away as the night goes on. Having your lipstick with you is a sure fire way to keep your lips looking sexy all night. Make sure that you bring the same color lipstick you started the night off with or you could be asking for trouble as mixing colors will leave a strange colored mess on your lips.

Safety/Bobby Pins – Two types of pins for two different situations. Let’s start with the safety pin. You never know if you might lose a strap on your dress or get a slight tear somewhere. Even your shoe strap could tear on you if you are dancing it up one night. A safety pin can solve all those issues for you and keep you on that dance floor and not ruin your night.
The Bobby pins are a must have if you are wearing a wig. They can keep your wig secured in place or if you need to just keep back some stray hairs. There is always the chance you lose a Bobby Pin just walking around so keep a small handful with you if you can.

Deodorant/Perfume – Everyone sweats. Keeping a small travel size deodorant in your purse can help with those armpit sweats that can eventually consume the side of your outfit. On the flip side we know that some deodorants can leave a mark on your dress, so try and find one that is invisible. Perfume for me is a battle. You never want to be bathing in it as that draws attention to you and is a total turn off to others. A couple of little spritzes is all you need to start your night and then a quick spritz to refresh if you feel that the perfume’s scent has left your body.

One last tip – I’ve spoken to many CD’s who have told me they will bring a few tampons or pads with them. You may ask “for what?” Well if you are in the ladies room, there is always the possibility that a Cis Girl may ask if you have one. If you do and share one with her, it is another way to help with upholding your appearance as a woman and maybe even a new friend.

With our checklist, you should be able to have a stress free day out shopping or a night out for dinner, drinks, and dancing. No matter where you are these items are essential, so make sure to refer to our list before heading out.
